I agree that the time term &quot;time management&quot; is a bit of a misnomer, in that you cannot technically manage time. However, you can manage how you deploy yourself against the available time in a day. 

In addition to your very good suggestions, there is a helpful rule of thumb that I follow: if a task takes less than 5-10 minutes, I do it right away. If will take longer than that, I quickly schedule it into a later timeslot (which I diligently manage using Outlook and iPhone). 

One other thing that I sometimes do is deactivate Outlook&#039;s e-mail &quot;desktop alert&quot; so as not to be distracted (simply click on the Outlook icon in the system tray to change this setting).
